Dr Jaime Carrasco is from Cuenca, Spain. I got a degree in chemistry from UAM (Spain) with specialisation in agricultural chemistry and then suddenly he was fascinated by mushrooms and earned my MSc and PhD with theses focused on mushroom mycoparasites and disease control (UCLM, 2016). Last year I completed a Marie-Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship at Department of Plant Sciences (UOX), with Prof. Gail Preston as supervisor. I collaborate both with the industry and academia to do applied science to tackle societal challenges. Together with UOX and some other consortium members I have recently been awarded with the European project BIOSCHAMP (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101000651) to design biostimulant and sustainable substrates for mushroom cultivation. At the moment I am acting as PI in ASOCHAMP-CTICH, Spain (www.ctich.com) and overall innovation manager for the project. At the moment Jaime is a visitor researcher in Preston´s lab associated to this project.
I have an interest for mushroom-microbe interactions including mycoparasites, biostimulants and biocontrol agents, endophytic bacteria and mushroom microbiomes. In addition, I really enjoy scientific writing, I have worked as innovation consultant and currently I serve as guest editor for the Special Issue “Integrated Pest and Disease Management of Mushrooms and Vegetable Crops” for the open access journal Agronomy - Deadline: 30 August 2021.
Outside science Jaime likes doing sports (tennis, football, cycling and hiking), radio and dark jokes.
