Ramón y Cajal Fellow - Ecology of Cultivated Mushrooms
Cuenca, Castile-La Mancha, Spain
Dr Jaime Carrasco is from Cuenca, Spain. He got a degree in chemistry from UAM (Spain) with specialisation in agricultural chemistry and then suddenly he was fascinated by mushrooms and earned my MSc and PhD with theses focused on mushroom mycoparasites and disease control (UCLM, 2016). Last year I completed a Marie-Sklodowska-Curie Fellowship at Department of Plant Sciences (UOX), with Prof. Gail Preston as supervisor. I collaborate both with the industry and academia to do applied science to tackle societal challenges. Together with UOX and some other consortium members he was awarded the European project BIOSCHAMP (https://cordis.europa.eu/project/id/101000651) to design biostimulant and sustainable substrates for mushroom cultivation and continued to be a visitor researcher in Preston´s lab associated to this project.
He has an interest in mushroom-microbe interactions including mycoparasites, biostimulants and biocontrol agents, endophytic bacteria and mushroom microbiomes and has worked as an innovation consultant. In addition, he really enjoys scientific writing,
Outside science Jaime likes doing sports (tennis, football, cycling and hiking), radio and dark jokes.
